Hi all, I'm having a lot of trouble with the playback configuration in Sibelius. I wanted to add the Kontakt 5 Player device to Sibelius, so I installed the VSTPlugins for Kontakt into the VSTPlugin folders that Sibelius uses. When I opened Sibelius, the Kontakt player was not listed on the available devices list, so I went to the Audio Engine options to see if I could configure it. I noticed that it said 'If you have added or removed virtual instruments or effects, click Rescan to check the folder next time Sibelius runs (requires restart of Sibelius)' I hit Rescan and restarted the program, and now the program does not detect the Sibelius Player device (it's not listed under available or active devices), and I get no sound out of the program. The only playback device the program has listed is 'Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.' Also, none of the buttons in the Audio Engine Options dialogue are responsive. I have absolutely no idea what to do now. Any help is majorly appriciated.

1. Make sure that you have updated to the latest version of Sibelius 7.1.3.
2. In 'Audio Engine Options', make sure that 'Use virtual instruments and effects' is checked, and restart Sibelius.
3. Make sure that the VST DLLs you have added match the architecture of Sibelius. If you are running 32-bit Sibelius, use 32-bit versions of the VST plugins. If you are running 64-bit Sibelius, use 64-bit versions of the VST plugins.
4. After the above, for any further help, please attach screen-shots of the 'Playback Devices' and 'Audio Engine Options' windows.

And the above is what worked for me after a day of trying to figure out why the heck all of a sudden K2player was no longer in my device list. I'm not happy about the way Sib.7 has handled this 64/32bit thing - or maybe I should be unhappy with Win.7. It's very confusing to know exactly WHAT version I'm in. Nothing shows on the splash screen; (32/64) the application has one file name that says 32bit and another that has nothing - but what if you launch Sib. from a file (rather than launch then open a file) then what is opened? This has been a constant problem for me since Sib.7 came out with these two confusing choices - all of a sudden my MIDI keyboard isn't working? Why? Oh, I'm in 32bit and should be in 64bit, or the other way around - and also, the K2P is showing up in 32bit but I'm on Win.7 - so even though (thanks to Robin Walker) I now know where the breakdown occured, it's actually the wrong choice. K2P should show up in 64bit, not 32bit since I'm on a 65bit maching. This product is advertised to 'spend time composing not figuring out software' but that is often just not the case. I said I'm not very happy about it right? Good. I'm not.
I AM very happy for Robin Walker helping me solve this problem.

Kontakt 2 Player is an old version of a VST which was only made in a 32-bit version. So, even though you are on a 64-bit operating system, you are obliged to run the 32-bit version of Sibelius to use Kontakt 2 Player.
Kontakt 5 is available in a 64-bit version should you want to use Kontakt in Sibelius 64-bit. Kontakt 5 is a free download which functions in 'Player-only' mode (unless you pay for the full Kontakt licence).
